A Fun Way to Choose a Red

Hi Folks

Kathleen here,
with a fun easy uncomplicated way to choose a red...or at least what type of red to look at. There are so many reds out there from light to dark warm to cool muted to intense..it all can get rather complicated...and not much fun! I broke down all these reds into just three categories...Auburns...Irish Reds...and Strawberry Blondes. (Heather has a Mega Red color video out right now that goes much more in-depth than I do here with subcategories and many more reds!...check it out!)...ps with a surprise guest 😉👏🏻👍🏻

I bet if you looked at image 1) you would be drawn to one of these categories. If you're like me a lot of your personal tastes derive from your life's history and your personality. For instance my mom (Eileen Brophy -maiden name) was proud of her Irish heritage and instilled that love of all things Irish in me. Many of my relatives had red hair. I heard stories of my Great Grandmother’s (Bridget Fahy -maiden name)gorgeous auburn hair. I grew up with blonde hair that eventually turned into a drab dark blonde/light brown color...not pretty. 😜 I always wanted red hair...Lucille Ball..Maureen O’Hara they were gorgeous to me. I’m outgoing..and an artist and love color. I love all reds but its no surprise my favorite reds are the Irish Reds. The first set of auburns are very rich dark and red. I love all these colors. Out of these probably my favorite is BMs Ruby Mix..its not one of my beloved Irish Reds but its on the intense side of rich..look at those ruby red highlights around the front of Coco Mono SF...GORGEOUS! Since I tend to gravitate towards the more intense reds its no surprise that I love this color. If you have or have always loved brunette hair or gravitate towards rich jewel tones in your clothing or in your decorating than I would say an Auburn would be a good choice for you. A surprisingly gorgeous Auburn comes from Jon Renau...32 BF Cherry Almond Tart. The base color is a very dark rich red auburn...then it has some Irish Red and ginger blonde highlights on top and in the front. Since this color is so dramatic its no surprise that out of the Auburns in image 3) its my favorite. Even though JRs Mariska is a classic style this color makes it a wow piece. I get compliments on this color every time I wear it. No one believes me when I tell them its a wig...and yes I always tell them its a wig...lol. I’m so proud and happy I can’t help myself.😜 Onto my favorite Irish Reds...bold intense reds...some very blended some mixed/ or highlighted with apricot blonde or butterscotch blonde but all are vibrant. You will be noticed in these colors. A little known color that is my favorite out of the reds in image 4 is Tony of Beverly's 32S29 shown here on my Cali wig...basically it uses the same colors as their Sunset red but the color distribution is stacked vs mixed. The nape is a darker red auburn then more of the intense Irish Red is used and then on top and around the front apricot blondes are mixed in. Its gorgeous and very sophisticated. The Light Red by Envy reminds me of the red Lucille Ball dyed her hair. I wouldn't consider this a natural Irish Red color but so gorgeous all the same. The Irish Reds in image 5 are a bit different than the blended Irish Reds in image 4. For instance Tangelo by Tony of Beverly is on the light side of medium but I put her in this category because this color is so intense..not blonde and actually quite realistic. This is the color of childhood ginger red. I grew up down the road from a family with five siblings...all of them had this hair color...vibrant Light Ginger Red not at all a muted shade....you will be noticed in this color...and in my book that makes her an Irish Red. 😉 🍀 The first set of Strawberry Blondes are light muted reds. I have them in this category because they either are very muted or have lots of butterscotch blonde in them. These are for folks who don't like dark colors or bright colors. Perhaps you already have blonde or light brown hair and want to throw your hat into the red pool. An apricot or blush color appeals to you...sounds pretty? These are..very soft very pretty. They look beautiful on everyone. I personally love Raquel Welch's Glazed Strawberry...such a beautiful blushy light red with lots of butterscotch blonde highlights. One of the first reds I fell in love with. If you are blonde now this is a good one to try. Image 7 has a selection of Strawberry Blondes on the lighter side. Tony of Beverly's Strawberry Frost is so pretty. Heavily highlighted with loads of warm blonde highlights on a base of soft light red. My favorite these days is Estetica Design’s R30/28/26. A natural soft light red. Indoors in low light a beautiful soft very warm brown and in sunlight a beautiful strawberry blonde loaded with apricot blonde mixed throughout. Very natural color...not too dark not too light...just right..😊 So what I would love to see is more folks trying out a red or two. They aren't scary. You can go as dark or as light as you want. For instance.. if you love blonde hair and just want a bit of a change you can’t go wrong with a Strawberry Blonde. The take away here is have fun!..don't stress over color...we have enough stress in our lives. Choosing a red should be as fun as picking out flowers for your dining room table...as I always say...ENJOY! 🙋

The Two Main Types of Wig Anxiety: Part One

May 11, 2021

Wig anxiety is a real thing and it can manifest in a couple of different ways.

A very common manifestation of wig anxiety that is particularly common among new wig wearers is the concern that everyone knows you’re wearing a wig. This is not true. This anxiety usually fades over time as you begin to realize that most people have no clue you’re wearing a wig. (And if anyone does notice, they tend to be fellow wig wearers, which is actually kind of a cool way to meet friends and share styling tips.)
