Kenny's Wig Review: In the Spotlight

Hello again, I'm Kenny and lately, I have been totally wiggin' out on wigs! I have been searching for a second wig as a back up to my Belle Tress Sugar Rush. So many brands, so many styles, so many colors and it's so hard to pick a favorite. A few months ago I purchased the Raquel Welch Spotlight Elite in the color RL 4/6-Black Coffee (deep warm espresso brown). This is a really sweet wig ;) It has dark brown roots surrounded and evenly blended with subtle reddish warm tones. The color seems to change in various indoor lighting. Now, there are some pros and cons to the Spotlight Elite.

Pros:

The Spotlight Elite is synthetic, with a monofilament top, a fully hand-tied cap with a nice lace front. In general, the lace fronts are comfortable and the knots on these Raquel Welch wigs are very impressive :) This lace front is about 4" long. Spotlight Elite has long soft and silky layers. It's lightweight, heat friendly and I can part my hair from any direction. The RL 4/6 blends well with my skin tone and the side tabs fit nicely. Since my bio hair has thinned out from the chemotherapy, I did have this wig thinned down about 30% and just added a few wispy bangs (as shown in these pictures).

Cons:

Heather from Cysterwigs mentioned in her videos the Raquel Welch wigs tend to run a little small/snug. I noticed this as well. My head circumference is 21.5." Spotlight Elite is listed as an average size. The cap is a little stretchy, but not by much. After a while, the cap starts to pull back and I have to secure it with bobby pins. I think someone with a smaller sized head should have no problem with the Raquel Welch wigs. Because this wig has such long layers, it tends to get snarled and tangled easily so it's best to keep a comb handy. I've tried on and tested several styles and colors of Raquel Welch wigs and they are awesome! They're cool and comfortable, very realistic, the lace front is not scratchy, the hair fiber is not overly shiny, it's lightweight, the colors are so natural-looking and can blend well against your own bio hair. Have a great week everyone!

Hi
You look beautiful! Such a beautiful colour. I think how you thinned the wig so you would feel more comfortable after chemo is brilliant. Wishing you all the best. -Nadine

What do you mean by
What do you mean by "Medical Grade"?

August 12, 2020

Medical wigs are made to be used as prosthetics (hair replacements) as opposed to fashion or cosplay wigs, which are worn to look cute but are not meant to be worn by folks with medical hair loss. Medical wigs tend to have comfort features and high end finishes. These include felt, silicone, or polyurethane in the caps to aid with grip and comfort when worn against a bare scalp. If they have lace, the lace is precut. (This is not the case in fashion and cosplay wigs, where they emphasize customization of the hair line over ease of wear.) That's the general rule of thumb, at least. Some brands blur those lines, like Rene of Paris, Ellen Wille's Changes and Perucci lines, and the newer crop of Estetica wigs. These all tend to skimp on higher end cap features in favor of fast production and trendier styles, similar to fashion brands.
