Stunning Silver Star! Joelle by Tony of Beverly, Color: Minx

The mix of gray, light brown and pearly white are all blended beautifully. It has a silver sheen, especially in sunlight, it literally glows!! Very flattering shade for all skin tones, I believe. The hair fibers are silky soft, sleek and a natural sheen. Unusual for a non heat resistant wig. The hair has a fine denier, just the right amount of density, no worry about tracks showing through, nor too heavy.

Should I expect the wigs to completely cover my side burns?

Let me ask right here before I forget, where exactly are the ear pieces supposed to hit on your head? Should they come down far enough so as to create sideburns or sit higher rather above the ears?

Should I cut a long synthetic wig to make a short one?

At this point I am considering maybe the Zara Large and cutting it to just above my shoulders? If I did get a Zara, where do I have it cut? It seems like the wig shops around here will only cut it if they sell it to you. Is it safe to have a regular hair stylist cut a synthetic wig?</blockquote>
A lot of you can probably tell already that this e-mail was from someone very new to wigs because most of us learn this lesson the hard (and expensive) way:

Should I buy a backup wig?

Should I buy a backup wig?

June 30, 2020

I think having a back up wig is a must. I always have a few on hand, even when I am traveling. Even if I were packing light, I wouldn’t travel with fewer than maybe three, to put it into perspective. Now, that isn’t to say they’re all expensive. Most of the wigs in my collection are actually wefted or partially wefted. I only own two completely hand-tied wigs because I, like most people, like to save money when possible. :)

I want to let it be known that this is a place where we should all come together to be supportive of one another in our respective hair journeys, whether or not we support (or understand) each others’ life paths. This could be a fabulous opportunity to learn from one another, provided we maintain respect for each other’s boundaries.

What is the recommended care for a blended-fiber wig?

What is the recommended care for a blended-fiber wig?

June 10, 2020

Synthetic-safe care products will not damage the human hair in these blended-fiber wigs, but human-hair products may damage the heat-friendly synthetic fiber of the blend. We recommend that you use the same care techniques that you would for synthetics, since that material generally makes up about 70% of the wig.

I believe that you should never buy ANYTHING if you are in the grip of anxiety. It is very difficult to focus on what you're doing when you feel anxious. You may even buy too quickly in the rush to end those uncomfortable feelings. This can lead to a lot of problems all by itself if you don't end up enjoying the product!

Why do certain styles look longer/shorter on different people?

Why do certain styles look longer/shorter on different people?

May 27, 2020

That is a fantastic question! Now, I also have a question for you, have you measured your face? (from your hairline to your chin) This measurement will help greatly with figuring what the length of a style will be on you, especially when it comes those shorter, pixie cuts! I also have a very petite cap size and about a 7" long face. So, I know when I see a certain style has a fringe measurement of 3.75" (about 4"), I know it's most likely going to fall around my cheekbone, maybe a bit higher, like with Ivy by Noriko. I use this same trick for the side measurement as well. I find it really helps me determine if I'll like the length of a certain style.

Why is it so difficult to find wigs in pure cool / ash tones?

Why is it so difficult to find wigs in pure cool / ash tones?

May 13, 2020 1 Comment

Almost every wig color in the world, with very few exceptions, has a bit of gold, neutral (or “honey”) tones, or auburn mixed in, if only in subtle amounts. Pure ash colors do exist, especially in the platinums and lighter greys, but they are definitely few and far between. This is because ash tones tend to age people, and most women want to look younger than their actual age, not the other way around.
