Terri - CCHD Tier One

Hello there!  My name is Terri. I  I am a full time wig wearer.  My hair began thinning in my early 20's. After giving birth to 2 amazing sons, my hair loss accelerated.  After much testing, my doctor surmised the hair loss problem was a hormone imbalance due to polycystic ovarian syndrome. I felt devastated, embarrassed and avoided certain social situations for too many YEARS!  It took me until I was in my mid 40's to try wigs.  I was instantly hooked. The only regret I have is that I didn't start wearing hair earlier in my life!

Wigs have literally changed my life for the better. I am so excited to provide guidance, compassion and inspiration to all of you that are beginning your wig journey or those looking to grow and enhance your hair experience:-)

No one CHOOSES to have hair loss, but we can do something about it and improve our lives!

My favorite wig: Jon Renau Ignite.  Ignite is a gorgeous angled bob with long face framing bangs and an amazing lace front. Its so practical with its length and the style can be sophisticated or sexy all the same time! I try out and enjoy many different hair styles and colors, but I keep coming back to Ignite.  It feels like home.

Favorite cap construction: I am a fan of a lace front with an open cap.  The lace front provides a convincingly natural hairline while the open cap provides the coolness and comfort that allows me to go all day.

My favorite color is Jon Renau's 12FS8, Shaded Praline.  A gorgeous rooted medium blonde with a generous amount of light blonde highlights.  The roots blend seamlessly with my own bio hair which I love!

How long have you been wearing wigs: I have been wearing wigs full time for nearly 2 years.

Advice I wish I knew when I was new to wigs:  You do not need to give up an arm and a leg to buy a good quality beautiful wig!!  Some wig boutiques and brick and mortar wig retailers need to charge high prices because they have big overhead expenses.  Select a reputable online retailer for better selection and pricing.  I would've saved a bundle had I realized this much sooner in my hair journey.

My favorite quote:  One of a few faves:  "When you can't change the direction of the wind - adjust your sails." ~H Jackson Brown Jr.

Tracy - CCHD Tier One

I grew up in Mississippi. I’m a mother of 5: 4 daughters and a son who died when he was 28 hours old. I’m married to my very best friend ever! We love to hang out together playing games, watching movies, reading, and traveling. Our whole family are big Doctor Who fans!  We’re geeks. :-D We owned a book store for 5 years--until a couple of years ago. I’ve home schooled all of our daughters. Our last two babies were born at home with a midwife. In the past 18 months, I started weight training again after some years of not, and lost 89 pounds.

I have a couple of medical conditions that contributed to hair thinning.  After losing weight, the hair loss just accelerated, and I was devastated. I never realized just how much self-confidence was tied to my hair until I started losing it. I was terrified to wear a wig at first.  I just knew that the first time I went out in one, people were going to point and snicker.  Not only did they not, but I got so many compliments on how pretty my hair looked.  People really don’t notice things as much as we think they do. I was very much not open about wig-wearing for quite a while, but then I decided, 1.) If I’m going to have to wear helper hair, then I’m going to have fun with it by changing colors and styles, 2.) maybe I can help other women become confident with wearing hair if they see how much fun I have with it. I don’t shout it from the rooftops, but those who see me on a regular basis know.

Favorite wigs: Envy Belinda, Jon Renau Adriana and Amber, Estetica Orchid

Favorite cap construction type: Mono-top, or mono-part with lace front.

Favorite wig colors: Envy’s Creamed Coffee, or Jon Renau’s Shaded Peaches and Cream ( 14/26S10)

How long have you been wearing wigs: I’ve been wearing wigs for almost 20 months now.

Advice I wish I knew when I was new to wigs: Get color rings!

Favorite quote: Just one of many-- “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

Gina - CCHD Tier One

My hair started to thin in high school with significant loss after each of my two pregnancies. With encouragement from my husband, I started wearing hair early this year and it feels great not living with the emotional weight of my hair loss. It has allowed me to express how I see myself and how I want others to see me. I am now able to stand confidently with my family in pictures instead of wanting to hide behind the camera. For people who are turning to wigs to cover up their bio hair, I hope it helps you illuminate your authentic self as it does for me.

Favorite wig: Jon Renau Ignite

Favorite cap construction type: Mono-top or Lace front open cap

Favorite wig colors: Hot Fudge (1b) and Plumberry Jam-LR

How long have you been wearing wigs: 5 months

Advice I wish I knew when I was new to wigs: Use a sale! Not just to save money on a wig you love, but also for a backup.

Favorite quote: “I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have. Good and bad.” - Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Caroline - CCHD Tier One

Hello, I’m Caroline. And yes, I have been wearing wigs on a daily basis going on about 11 years now. I am a wife and mother of 3: daughter 19, son 17, and another son 11. Prior to wigs, I can’t remember a time I ever had nice hair… I mean ever! As a teen, I recall dreading going to the hair salon because I knew the comments that were coming. Things like, “Oh, your hair is sooo thin. Have you tried “such and such”?” Also, “Let’s try a perm so we can give your hair more body.” And yes, every teen girl wants to hear, “I don’t think YOU can have long hair. We’ll try one of those short cuts.” So, often my hair was tightly permed, fluffed up, and then cut very short. In truth, it was a granny style! Ugggh! But those were my only options. I learned to poof it up and accept it. I lived with every hair plastered in place with hairspray! I kept dealing with my bio hair up until after my last child was born. At that time my hair drastically thinned to point of no return! I didn’t know anyone who wore wigs. I was devastated, even though I never even liked my bio hair!

No matter what your circumstances, it is NEVER easy to lose your hair. As many do, I started with the most expensive human hair wigs that I could buy because I thought they were my best option-- not knowing any differently. I had some beautiful human hair wigs. However, I never really knew how to style them, and I didn’t factor in the time it would take to do so. Some years later, due to brave Bloggers and YouTubers, I tried synthetic wigs. Synthetic wigs were just… more me. If you are not great with hair than it makes no difference. Your hair always looks great! Not to mention the time they save!!

Of course, everyone has different opinions about human hair vs synthetic. Please know that you do have options and check them all out!

Favorite wigs: Jenny and Ignite by Jon Renau; Lately, I wear a lot of shorter styles because it fits my lifestyle now, and with one kid in college and another on its doorstep, I am budget friendly. I get more wear out of the shorter styles due to they’re not rubbing against my shoulders and clothing.

Favorite cap construction: Lace front, open cap

Favorite wig colors: Jon Renau's Shaded Praline and Shaded Peach.

How long have you been wearing wigs: 11 years

Advice I wish I knew when I was new to wigs: You so not need to spend a fortune to have a convincing wig!

Favorite Quote: No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. ~Aesop
