Can I dye a synthetic wig?

Short answer: No. We don't recomment it. We'll explain why below.

Should You Dye Your Synthetic Wig? Pros and Cons

When it comes to dying synthetic wigs, there are both pros and cons that you should be aware of before you make a decision. On the one hand, yes, you can technically dye your synthetic wig without ruining it. However, on the other hand, the process is much more difficult than with human hair wigs, and the results may not be what you expect.

Pros

When it comes to dying synthetic wigs, there are both pros and cons that you should be aware of before you make a decision. On the one hand, yes, you can technically dye your synthetic wig without ruining it. However, on the other hand, the process is much more difficult than with human hair wigs, and the results may not be what you expect.

Cons

However, there are some big downsides to dying synthetic wigs that you should be aware of. First of all, the process is much more difficult than with human hair wigs. You'll need to be very careful not to damage the wig while you're dying it. Additionally, the results may not be what you expect. The color may not take evenly or look natural. The texture of your wig may become brittle and scratchy.

This is how you dye a synthetic wig -- but we still don't recommend it!

If you're set on dying your synthetic wig, here's how:

1. Boil a pot of water. You'll need enough water to cover the wig you're dying. For every 1 cup of water, add 3 teaspoons of synthetic fabric dye. Regular fabric or hair dyes will not work.

2. Reduce the water to a simmer and add your wig. The longer you leave the wig in the pot, the darker it will be.

3. Remove your wig from the pot and rinse it in cold water until the water runs clear.

4. Place the wig on a wig stand and allow it to air dry.

This brings us to our final point:

The texture of your wig will never be the same, but it is technically possible to dye a synthetic wig

Dyeing synthetic wigs is a tricky process, and it doesn't always go as planned. We do not recommend dying synthetic wigs, even though the color results can be very rewarding. Warning: The texture will never be the same. That is the major trade-off for the process. If you can live with that risk, this might be a fun way to spend an afternoon. Before you risk your wig, we recommend browsing the wigs at Hair Kitty Kitty. Our colors are dope AF. Try that before you risk your ruining expensive wigs.
